$25 keeps one listing true for another season.

A gift pays for the calls, the printed lists at fourteen pick-up points, and the navigator who answers the phone. The whole year, with every number’s method and the filings, is on the Financials page.

A small-town bus stop on a main street: a wooden bench with a slatted back, a blank sign on a post, a trash can, a low brick storefront with a plum-coloured awning, a folded umbrella left on the bench, leaves on the sidewalk.
Fourteen pick-up points, most of them within a block of a bench like this one.
One gift, one row

$25

One listing, phoned, confirmed and updated on the site.

The organization runs no service of its own, so a gift never competes with a meal or a ride: it pays for the list and the phone line that find them.

$60a month of the printed list at one pick-up point
$120one afternoon on the navigator line
$300a volunteer training evening, for the next twelve checkers
$62,000last year’s individual gifts, in all — 15 cents of every dollar the organization had
Give

One listing, re-verified

$25 is one listing checked by phone and updated on the site. $60 is a month of the printed list at one library. $120 is an afternoon on the navigator line. Monthly gifts let the coordinator print the list without counting first.

$25 covers one listing re-verified.

Where the printed list goes

Fourteen pick-up points. Six of them look like this.

1,850 printed lists were taken last year — the outreach coordinator counts what is gone, not what was printed. $60 keeps one point stocked for a month.

A reading table in a small-town public library with a green-shaded lamp and a stack of blank-covered booklets.
Both county libraries
Rows of folding chairs in a plain church fellowship hall with a coffee urn on a table at the front.
Four church halls
A slatted wooden bench at a small-town bus stop with a blank sign, a trash can and a brick storefront behind.
The senior center, by the bus stop
Shelves of a small food pantry: jars of dried beans and rice, a basket of onions, cans with plain labels.
Three pantries
A small-town main street in October: brick storefronts, maples in orange and yellow, a bench and a lamp post.
Two clinics on the main street
A desk with a corded phone and headset, a comb-bound printed directory, a clipboard and a highlighter.
The office, and by post on request
A small-town square at dusk in late autumn: the street lamps just lit, warm windows in the brick storefronts, a bare tree, wet pavement reflecting the lamps, a bench under a lamp.
The list is restocked on the last Friday of the month, after the offices close, so it is there on Saturday morning.
The year in one line

36 of 36 listings checked in the last twelve months

That number is computed from the dates on the rows, today. The year’s counts — listings verified, calls answered, lists handed out, volunteer hours — each with the sentence that says how it was counted, are on the Financials page, with the three most recent Form 990s.
